Director, ASCL Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland, home-based.
Starting salary £76,609
Full-time, permanent
The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is the leading professional association and trade union for all school and college leaders. We are proud to support and represent more than 25,000 leaders of primary, secondary and post-16 education from across the UK.
In Northern Ireland, ASCL Northern Ireland speaks with authority to influence national, regional and local government policy and practice; provides individual advice and support to members on professional matters and their employment and delivers first-class professional development.
The Director of ASCL Northern Ireland is an exciting role and is responsible for leading on all aspects of the association’s policy in relation to schools and colleges in Northern Ireland. The post-holder supports the work of ASCL Council and is expected to meet and influence senior representatives for the Northern Ireland Assembly, Northern Ireland Office and influential bodies.
With excellent presentation and communication skills, and with proven knowledge of current Northern Irish education policies relevant to school and college leaders, you are likely to have recently held either a policy-focused role or a leadership role in an education organisation, education setting or other relevant educational organisation. The successful candidate will be educated to degree standard, be confident and effective in media engagement and able to provide insight and oversight of local commercial opportunities.
Working closely within an extremely well-regarded and supportive ASCL team, who represent members and influence policy, you may occasionally be asked to deputise for the General Secretary.
The position is home-based although involves frequent travel across Northern Ireland to attend meetings with key stakeholders and deliver training and consultancy to members. There will be regular contact with and visits to ASCL HQ in Leicester, plus training and development.
ASCL is an equal opportunities employer and offers a very generous package of benefits, including 33 days holiday plus bank holidays and a pension scheme to which the association contributes 9%. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses are also covered, including a working from home allowance. Equipment is provided. We encourage applications regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
