Salary: Up to £33,606 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Location: Office Base is Salford or London.

Job Introduction


In the BBC Local Longform Investigations team, you will originate and deliver investigations and high impact stories across online, TV and radio. You will collaborate on commissions with colleagues across BBC Local and the wider BBC as appropriate. Primarily working with video, you will be required to reversion content across multiple platforms.

If the answer is yes to the above then working on the BBC Local Longform team could be the next role for you, bringing investigations and high impact stories to large regional audiences across online, TV and radio.

Main Responsibilities


You will work with the team to generate ideas and stories; contributing to creative treatments and supporting the pitching of investigative story ideas for online, TV and radio. You will demonstrate innovation, a desire and determination to tell untold stories and a passion for original journalism that appeals to our diverse audiences across all our platforms.


You will carry out in-depth background/subject research, ensuring complete accuracy and critically evaluating the relevance and suitability of information.


You will identify and select stories in a way which demonstrates strong journalistic skills and editorial judgement, applying appropriate legal knowledge and sensitivity to the subject matter and all parties engaged in the editorial process.


You will help the creative and journalistic process to deliver compelling content from a range of sources, supporting the production team before, during and after transmission and publication.

Are you the right person?

We are looking for someone with strong storytelling skills with experience supporting senior online, television or radio production staff in the delivery of high-impact content.


  • You will be creative and imaginative, bursting with original and relevant ideas that reflect the diversity of our audiences, with a true desire to tell untold stories that appeal to a broad range of people. Experience of finding contributors from diverse backgrounds is essential.
  • Strong investigative research skills are required to ensure complete accuracy and an ability to critically evaluate the relevance and suitability of information.
  • Recent experience of self-shooting would be an advantage.
  • You will have the ability to support and develop cross-platform content, often working to tight deadlines across multiple deliverables.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • You should have knowledge of relevant editorial guidelines and follow the appropriate guidelines and policies to manage all editorial and legal risks.
