Assessor/Trainer Electrical and Electronic Engineering

£19,101 to £22,038 pa

The post holder will be required assess learners predominately undertaking Diploma / NVQ levels 1-3 qualifications, and in some areas, delivery of higher apprenticeships at level 4. Work content also includes delivery of underpinning knowledge. Post holders will have a caseload of approximately 40 candidates per year, assessing full time and part time students within the workplace as well as on short programmes delivered within the College. Caseload may vary through the year and is to be defined at the discretion of the Curriculum Director, taking into consideration such factors as the awarding body, learner profile / level, geographical distribution of learners, size of cohort with the employer and the framework being undertaken, feedback from target and compliance meetings.

North Warwickshire & Hinckley College is one of the largest providers of education and training in the Midlands. They offer a wide variety of programmes to individuals, communities and businesses.

Main Duties:

*To prepare, and assess learners at NVQ levels 1-3 through the assessment of students in line with Awarding Body standards.
*To be responsible for maintenance of caseload in terms of recruitment, retention, withdrawals and achievement either through recruiting learners directly, or through the apprenticeship / sales team with whom close liaison will be required
*To manage individual learners within a caseload taking responsibility for initial assessment, induction and progression.
*To instruct students through the delivery of some underpinning knowledge.
*To participate in the internal verification process, by internally verifying students' work, attending IV and EV meetings.
*To assess work placements for Health and Safety in accordance with College and legal requirements.
*To work to complete the assessment and tracking of records to ensure student progress is followed as each element / unit is completed.
*To ensure target setting and monitoring of learners is undertaken in the interests of promoting timely completion; to take responsibility for reporting concerns with progress.
*To undertake administrative duties associated with the post, including the maintenance of learner records as required by the College and the employer
*To participate in the enrolment process, signing up learners and completing all contract information in liaison with learners, employers and parents, including some Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
*To contribute and work effectively as a member of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering team within the Transport and Engineering Directorate. This includes the management of specific courses as required by the Curriculum Director or equivalent, and the participation in cross college working groups as required
*To attend team meetings.
*To make use of IT to aid the progress of training e.g. through the use of diary and tracking systems, e -portfolios, Moodle etc
*To promote College quality procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
*To undertake personal and professional development equivalent to 30 hours CPD (or pro-rata) each academic year, maintaining an awareness of industry developments and demonstrating a commitment to the achievement of professional qualifications

Experience/Qualifications

*Competence to at least NVQ Level 3 within the subject area and at least one level above the level of the programme delivery is on
*Vocational competence / experience
*Hold the appropriate assessor and verifier qualifications (A1 and V1 awards) and engagement with conversion to new standards as required
*Hold qualifications as defined by the awarding body for current programme delivery
*Literacy and Numeracy qualifications to at least Level 2 / equivalent or be prepared develop a plan to achieve within the first year of appointment
*IT Competence with key programmes such as Excel and Word,
*Willingness to deliver training flexibly across a range of hours as required by the employer - this may include delivery in unsociable hours
*Excellent communication (written and verbal) and relationship skills
*The ability to produce high quality, accurate work in a timely fashion
*A commitment to E&D within practice / contact with students, and commitment to the College's Single Equality Scheme
*An enhanced CRB and a recognition of how this post can support the safeguarding of young people
*Hold a driving licence, have access to a vehicle and be prepared to travel to candidate workplace locations to undertake assessment

Desirable criteria:

*Recognition of the importance of accurate administration and tracking
*A proven ability to learn new IT / internal systems
*Hold an associate teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS (or demonstrated willingness to work towards)
*Be an associate membership of the IFL
*The ability to work independently whilst recognising when support and guidance is appropriate
*A commitment to operating with the environment and sustainable practice in mind
*Be responsible for the safeguarding and welfare of all students, and hold an enhanced CRB check through the College

Hours: 37 hours per week.
